Greyton’s leiwater system — a living piece of heritage that’s been flowing for more than 160 years — owes its survival to community involvement, dedication, and a deep respect for tradition. One such champion is Mr Andrew Dalling, who recently stepped down after more than 25 years of service on the Leiwater Committee.

Andrew brought more than just time to the role. As a monitor and long-standing committee member, his legal background, calm demeanour and appreciation for leiwater’s historic value proved invaluable. He helped draft guidelines for monitors, navigated tricky legal waters, and ensured this treasured system kept flowing — even when other towns in the Theewaterskloof Municipality saw theirs dry up.

When drought hit and COVID-19 followed, Andrew was instrumental in holding things together during a time of municipal upheaval. “He knew who to call and how to make things happen.”

In recognition of his service, TWK’s Acting Town Manager, Mrs Marelize Faul, arranged a small ceremony where Andrew was presented with a certificate of appreciation — a fitting gesture for a man who has quietly made such a lasting difference.
