As the quieter winter months set in, Greyton has unfortunately seen an increase in trespassing and opportunistic theft from homes and properties. While this is a seasonal trend experienced in many small towns, there is something our community can do together to help.

Greybos Neighbourhood Watch (GNW), in partnership with APS (Specialized Agri Protection Services), is once again launching its successful Winter Patrols initiative. Similar patrols over previous holiday periods have proven to be an effective deterrent, helping to keep our streets safer for everyone.

Residents are encouraged to review their own home security, while also supporting this community-led effort. APS clients are invited to make a once-off contribution of R50 (or more if they wish) towards the Winter Patrols. Non-APS clients are equally welcome to contribute, as the patrols benefit the entire village.

The funds will be used exclusively for nighttime patrols. It costs around R7,000 to deploy a trained team of six patrollers for two nights, covering wages and transport. These patrols provide a visible presence throughout the night and play an important role in discouraging criminal activity.

The initiative will begin over the upcoming Fire & Wine Weekend, helping to ensure both residents and visitors can continue to enjoy everything Greyton has to offer.

If you would like to support the initiative, please make a once-off payment to either APS or Greybos Neighbourhood Watch using your name and “Winter Patrols” as the payment reference.
