On 9 May 2026, firefighters, stakeholders and community members gathered in Bredasdorp to commemorate International Firefighters’ Day — a day dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifice and commitment of firefighters around the world.
Greyton Volunteer Firefighters were proud to be invited to take part in the event, standing alongside dedicated men and women from across the region who give their time, energy and skill to protecting lives, communities and the environment.
This year’s theme, “Inclusivity Without Compromising Tradition,” was a powerful reminder that courage knows no boundaries. Firefighting has a long and proud history, but it is also a calling that continues to grow stronger as more people from all walks of life step forward to serve.
One of the highlights of the day was the convoy parade through Bredasdorp, where teams had the opportunity to showcase their vehicles and community spirit. Greyton’s much-loved Unimog also took part in the 4×4 competition — a proud and enjoyable moment for the team.
The day was both meaningful and full of camaraderie, celebrating not only professional firefighters but also the volunteers who play such an important role in rural and village communities.
