Here in our peaceful corner of the Overberg, it’s easy to believe nothing bad could happen on such a beautiful day. But strokes can strike anyone, anytime — and knowing what to do could make all the difference for a neighbour, friend, or loved one.
That’s why we’re encouraging our community to take two minutes to learn the simple signs of stroke. It’s not just helpful — it could be lifesaving.
What is a Stroke?
A stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or a blood vessel bursts. Brain cells begin to die within minutes, which can lead to long-term disability or even death. But here’s the good news: if treated quickly, the damage can be greatly reduced.

Here’s how to spot the signs:
- F – Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side droop?
- A – Arms: Can they raise both arms? Does one drift down?
- S – Speech: Is their speech slurred or strange?
- T – Time: If you see any of these signs, call for help immediately.
